About COMPANY
"It’s things like using force together,
Shouting ‘til you’re hoarse together,
Getting a divorce together,
That make perfect relationships."
Company is Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s prolific, revolutionary musical comedy.
Set in New York, Company explores a brief moment in the mind of its central character, a thirty-five year old bachelor Robert, via his three girlfriends and his ten married, once married, or soon to be married friends. Robert is unable to commit to a long-term relationship, let alone marriage, and looks to the relationships of those around him for guidance, satisfaction, and validation. The musical explores the good and the bad, the less than ideal aspects of commitment and the supposition that while relationships aren't perfect, they may just be a necessary part of ‘Being Alive’.
With a multitude of Broadway standards, including Ladies Who Lunch, Getting Married Today, Side by Side by Side and Being Alive, Company remains as fresh and vibrant today as it was when it premiered in 1970. A musical that entertains and examines, challenges and champions the very concept of commitment and relationships. A musical for anyone who has ever wondered ‘what it’s really about’.
