Humbugg, or A Christmas Carol

First performed in 1973, Humbugg retells Dickens' famous story of yuletide redemption through the music of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas (drawing largely on Ruddigore, Pirates and Patience), with an entirely original libretto. It is closely faithful to the original text, featuring Jacob Marley and his trio of festive ghosts, the Cratchit family and, of course, Ebenezer Scrooge.

The show is to be directed by Ashley Mercer, who has recently directed HMS Pinafore for KCL G&S Society, appeared in Elegies with Imperial Opera a few years ago, and who has recently joined the Imperial Opera committee as publicity officer. The Musical Director is Alex Young, a recent Music graduate who joins Imperial Opera for the first time, having previously directed West Side Story and Jesus Christ, Superstar for KCL Musical Theatre Society.
